Hogtown Brewers was founded primarily by a group of Toronto rugby players. The guys had a vision of creating a local beer with a great flavour and craft qualities, yet had the drinkability of popular lagers. The founding members, Noel, Peter and Derek then met Jay Cooke, our brew master. Jay had just returned from Germany. He was inspired by the Kolsch style from Cologne. The guys agreed with Jay and decided to brew a unique Kolsch Style Ale in Toronto. Hogtown Ale was born.
We began distributing our Hogtown Ale on a limited basis in the city of Toronto in early 2012. Since then we have established a large foothold in the Downtown Core and have spread our reach across the city to the West, North and East.
Toronto, we’ll always be committed to bringing you a flavourful, easy-drinking beer! Here’s To Character!
Hogtown is a popular nickname for Toronto and derived from its prowess in rendering pigs in the early 1900s. What better name for a beer to represent Toronto than the nickname derived from the industry that built this city into what it is today?
Our flagship beer, Hogtown Ale, brings a strong malt backbone, distinctive floral aroma, hints of white grapefruit and a lingering hoppy bite. Inspired and brewed in the style of a German Kolsch, our craft beer provides flavour and drinkability. It is a perfect “session” beer as it finishes light and crisp enough to be refreshing, yet will leave you pondering as you explore the complexity of flavours.
Meet “Hank,” our tap handle. You may have seen him around town. Perhaps he was smiling over the top of the bar at you, enticing your interest. Maybe he is a familiar face waiting for you to saddle up and have a pint. However, if you have not had the delight of making his acquaintance, we can assure you he will give you many reasons to come back and enjoy his offerings again, and again.
